They call themselves Ump, Brower, Sig and Levi, and they make down and dirty rock 'n' roll. Songs on this self-titled six-song EP from Oklahoma's Motortrain include "Backyard Brawler," "She's Hot" and "Bad Girls." Oh, and the cover features six opened cans of beer. So don't expect to be enlightened.
Instead, this carefree set proves mildly entertaining, with Ump's boozy, throaty vocal delivery backed by two Southern-fried guitars and a lumbering rhythm section. Think Rose Tattoo, Rhino Bucket and probably three-quarters of all bar bands you've ever seen and heard. Nasty lyrics, a scuzzy sound and a back-to-basics approach make Motortrain a good source of mindless amusement for 20 minutes.
