Gargle: Glow in the Gloom

Have you ever read the header on the SoT frontpage? You know the one about needing, "Experienced HEAVY METAL Writers?" Part of the attraction of this website is that it caters for all forms of progressive music not just metal, sometimes work which can't be quantified anywhere near metal even though metal is one of the broadest churches in popular music. This brings us to Gargle of whom I had previously never heard of.

According to their label (Fluttery Records), "Gargle, a duo from Tokyo, Japan offers instrumental music combining mixed emotions as if which is trying to express a gleam of light in the darkness. They create cinematic music using huge range of dynamics based on the sounds of guitar, accordion and piano mixed with the layers of ambient sounds. Their music is commonly categorized as ambient, post-rock, experimental and modern classical music." Classical music is very much where Gargle are at. Each piece works individually to create an ambient mood, each different to the previous one. Whether many people would choose to use Glow in the Gloom as a primary piece of media is open to debate, I had it on whilst pottering round the house and it provided an ideal accompaniment to my day whilst not being the sole focus of what I was doing. I would say that my dear departed mother would have liked much of this and I shall leave it up to you as to whether that is a good thing.
