Overkill: The Electric Age

Who would believe that Thrash Music would be on a roll in 2011/12? Continuing the momentum and keeping the genre very much alive is this latest offering from East Coast thrashers Overkill. Laying waste to the Bloodstock Festival a few years ago Overkill are now three decades into a career that defined thrash metal alongside the Big 4.

The Electric Age is a stunning piece of work with slick production and a punch to the chest that will send you to the floor. Bobby "Blitz" Ellswort's vocals are some of the more recognizable the genre has to offer and hot on the heels of the success of Anthrax here comes Overkill to continue the party. 'Come and Get It', 'Electric RattleSnake' is pumped out with blistering pace and ease. Sounding more like a fresh young band than the metal stalwarts they surly are, Overkill are kicking some serious ass with this album. Thrashy , funky bass lines buzzsaw solos are all the ingredients you expect and what you get is that and more on the side. The pace defies belief, these are guys in their 50's who are thrashing heavier and harder on 'Wish you were Dead' and 'Drop The Hammer Down' than some of their younger lesser counterparts.

Overkill are relevant today as they always were, they continue to push the genre forward and remain hungry for the music they stay true to. The Electric Age is another release that will stand proud in any metal fans collection, who would have thought they were capable of producing this head banging masterpiece so far in their illustrious career.

My Score:

Just new to these guys. Never gave them the respect they deserve. Ironbound ripped my face off. Waiting on this disc to come from Amazon as we speak. Seriously good metal music. Just got the new Cage disc today, also really strong.

My Score:

Just dropping a note to let U know that OVERKILL are not a Bay Area Thrash band. They are from New Jersey.

And yes, ELECTRIC AGE does kick some major ass but would we expect anything less from these boys?
