Darkane: Expanding Senses (remastered)
If you missed my previous review of the purely awesome Swedish band Darkane, well here is another one for you. Metal Mind Productions has re-issued another Metal classic of theirs, the 2002 instant classic, Expanding Senses. Be prepared to be blown away by this 9 track freight train of a Metal masterpiece.
Drummer Peter Wildoer and the lads released a killer effort back in 2002 and now in this gold limited edition CD and numbered re-issued Digipak format, Expanding Senses has never looked or sounded better. From the onset with the spectacular CD opener, "Innocence Gone", with its game on ferociousness right out of the gate to the crazy off timed drums on the outro, this record is off to an amazing start. Expanding Senses is a 9 song, 40 minute, fast and furious Swedish Metal fest combining elements of Thrash and Math/Extreme Metal to create a sound that is best described as Insane! You can easily hear influences of Fear Factory, Meshuggah, Soilwork and even contemporaries like Mnemic throughout this killer record and fans of those bands will LOVE Darkane and this record in particular. Don't get me wrong, Darkane is completely their own band, with their own unique sound, for sure and they are awesome!
There is NOT a dud track among the 9 on this record and they are all slamming. From the smokin', "The Fearof One's Self", to the Slayer-like opening riff and hyper fast pounding of "Parasites of the Unexplained" or the Thrashy feel of "Fatal Impact",Darkane covers all things Metal and they do it well. And I dare you to not play the killer, "Imaginary Entity",over and over. Darkane is able to cover a wide variety of Metal sub genres all while having some sense of melodic overtones throughout. These guys are just brutal and Expanding Senses is a perfect slice of Swedish Metal.
