The Mc Euen Sessions: For All the Good

I really like the way they started the press release for the album For All the Good: "It was the best of times; it was… the best time! ...for (my sons) Jonathan and Nathan, and myself, and for the music we have made together for years, we knew it was to be the best time… and we were ready" John Mc Euen continues describing the aura surrounding the making of For All the Good, "Strangely similar in many ways to the social conditions of the period when I put together the Will the Circle be Unbroken album with my brother Bill and the NGDB (1971), and we made this music in the midst of what some are calling the worst of times" (http://www.johnmceuen.com/, 2012).

This is a great father/sons teaming of some great country/western musicians. "The album was recorded at the incredible Tree Sound Studios in Norcross, Georgia, over a period of 6 days". The album is a great mix of classic rock, bluegrass, and traditional folk. "All vocals are by Jonathan and Nathan, (they sing like brothers!) backed with us playing piano, acoustic guitars, high-strung acoustic guitars, open-tuning guitars, electric guitar, electric bass, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, dobro and some of the percussion" (http://www.johnmceuen.com/, 2012) .

All songs have an original folk/country rock feel to them. It is great music to throw a change into your sound musings. My favorite tracks were Long Hard Road, Banjormous, Dave Mason cover, "Only You Know and I Know", and their cover of Dan Fogelberg's classic "Leader of the Band", "The Good time Suite", "Quicker at the Draw" and "Hills of Sylmar".
