There was a time boys and girls when the world was much more simple than it is today. If for instance one was to walk into a record shop thirty years ago everything would be simply arranged in alphabetical order – as the cliché would have it, from ABBA to ZZ Top. Then marketing people got involved and everything got sorted into genres and one was really only supposed to like a very narrow range of genres. The problem Napalm Records have with Kontrust is surely how to market them? Are they rock? Dance? Electronica? Nu Metal? The word that Napalm Records have used to describe them is crossover which, certainly in Englsih suggests that there may well be a mainstream appeal somewhere in Second Hand Wonderland.
Certainly the opening salvo of "Sock 'n' Doll" and "Falling" have "hit single" written all over them are just the kind of quirky pop music that can be found in certain parts of mainland Europe. After that it all goes a bit strange but nonetheless interesting. It is very difficult to describe Kontrust without hearing them. They are most definitely not like anyone else on Napalm Records and possibly not like many other acts at all. However, they are pretty refreshing and unique which must be worth something?
