Ah Pook The Destroyer: The Silver Key

The Silver Key is the debut album of the collaboration of Matthew Broyles and Paul Shapera, otherwise known as Ah Pook the Destroyer. The album is based on a short story by none other than H.P. Lovecraft. The works of Lovecraft have been used for songs quite often but never has one short story been the inspiration for a complete concept album.

Speaking of concept albums immediately brings to mind the narrow scene in which a concept album is loved. Progressive rockers all over the world adore works with a concept.

For anyone unfamiliar with the works of H.P. Lovecraft it is not easy to grasp what the story is about, but let me tell you Matthew and Paul have done a terrific job. On every song some Narration takes place, which tells you bits and pieces of the complete story and gives a hint what the song will deal with.

The album is true storytelling as the music does its wonderful job, from very subtle to more angry moments. Fine melody lines, chorus lines, subtle tunes to rocking hot. The lyrics stand out,and this is really a work that needs to be listened to in its entirety not just an excerpt... no, you really should take the time and listen. It might even prompt you to read some of Lovecrafts works.

In short Matt and Paul have done a marvelous job in creating this, The album is a digital download and as such available on the various online music services.I can recommend this piece of music to all that are into real concept rock art.
