Human Sculpture: Our World / Torn Down

Our World / Torn Down is a short musical sample from Human Sculpture that displays a band that is partial to metalcore, with plenty of breakdowns, and many melodic progressions. There are also intense bursts of blastbeats, such as that in "Deconstruction", to accentuate a soaring progression which both sounds fresh and gets the heart pumping.

The production is well done, though it lacks the cleanliness and tightness of other metalcore bands. It instead opts for a more organic, realistic sound that serves the EP well. Too much music in this genre becomes sterile as a result of overproduction -- a good example of that is a band called Within The Ruins. Human Sculpture avoids the cheesy clean vocal plus melodic chorus staple of metalcore and features purely brutal growls and screams.

The riffs are quite well written and performed, and despite the shift of styles within songs, they maintain a feeling of cohesiveness. There are a few spots where it seems a bit repetitive or sparse which could have been fixed with a well-placed pad or synth. The lack of keyboard elements keeps Our World / Torn Down within a regular band format, but it also leads to the music sounding somewhat vanilla. There's only so far you can go with a metalcore breakdown or progression. To be fair, the blastbeats and screams are a great aspect to Human Sculpture's sound, and bring some spice to one of metal's more popular subgenres.
