If piano is your forte, then you will certainly be mesmerized by the talents of Vedres Csaba whose album entitled Fohasz (Breathed Prayer) is a collection of hauntingly beautiful tracks from his first 5 albums.
Fans of progressive rock music may be familiar with Vedres' previous work with After Crying whereby he contributed to the success of 3 of their most highly regarded albums, namely, Overground Music, Megalazottak es Megszomoritottak, and Fold es eg. Following his departure from After Crying, he commenced a new project called Townscream and released the magnificent Nagyvarosi ikonok to critical acclaim.
Considered one of the top 2 dozen pianists of contemporary rock, it is easy to see how such accolades can be bestowed upon someone with so much ability. Blending a myriad of ideas and musical structures that include classic piano, jazz, folk and rock, his music is subtle, sincere, romantic, refreshing and radiates an aura of tranquility upon the listener in one moment then expands on a more vibrant approach to those few tracks featuring vocals.
As the album features 30 fairly short songs it would serve no purpose to provide a track by track description but suffice it to say, tracks such as "Lelektanc" with its soulful violin and achingly beautiful melodies are evocative of the music of a less commercialized Secret Garden while the 10 tracks totaling almost 14 minutes of improvisations certainly stand up exceptionally well. This is not for everyone but those with a penchant for the unusual and adventurous will be amply rewarded.
