Bleach: Astronomy

Okay, things could have easily gone the other way and become "Blech," but Bleach's infectious and uplifting outing Astronomy proves a thoroughly entertaining outing that doesn't take itself too seriously and, therefore, doesn't become instantly disposable. Sure, the radio is flooded with bands that sound almost exactly like these lads, but so what? At least these guys seem to have studied the right Joe Jackson records and while they claim corporate authorship of the songs on Astronomy, whoever brought the "Jaded Now" and the Ben Folds-ish "Patience" to the rehearsal room first has a bright future ahead of him. Cool punk "epic" of the moment? "Breakthrough." It's awesome and is one of several songs likely to insure Astronomy's place as someone's favorite album of the ought decade.
