Above This: 7L7

If you're searching for innovation, then look away from 7L7, the debut album from Above This. However if it's chugging guitars, rasping growls and bass drops aplenty you're after then there's no doubt that Above This will be spot on your money.

Other than the copious amount of dance music rivalling BOOOOooooommmmsssss that this album almost distorts under the weight of, what Above This serve up is a mightily convincing Deathcore album crammed with unsubtle guitar work, monotone growls and copious kick drum cacophonies. To be fair the little synth bursts and sound effects that surface from time to time do keep the focus changing at least slightly, but for almost all of this album's duration this is completely and utterly "full on" stuff that, depending on your mood, is either totally transfixing, or mind numbingly unrelenting. It really all should be too simplistic to keep you hooked, but in a way the inability of this album to even slightly compromise is its greatest strength. Yes, all the songs really sound the same and yes there are other bands out there doing extremely similar stuff, but crank this up and cast aside any aloofness you may have and there's simply no denying that this album is a mighty clout of Metal.

Never likely to be hailed as a classic, but damn enjoyable nonetheless, 7L7 is an album that has no pretentions to be anything other than the fist of fury that it is and it is all the better for being so!
