Iommi, Tony: Iron Man (Book)

It has been a long wait for Tony Iommi's side of the Black Sabbath story but this has finally been rectified with the release of autobiography Iron Man. This takes in the usual format of a few chapters on upbringing / family / childhood before we get into the main body of the book dealing with the ups and downs of his career. Drugs, lifestyle and the merry go round of changing faces that were part of the Sabbath story are all touched upon in a book that can be enjoyed in a few hours reading. Despite all of the well publicised fallings out in the Sabbath camp over the years there is seemingly no bitterness on Iommi's side to his many former band mates, although management and record companies are another matter entirely...

Don't expect any thoughtful insight into the creative process of "War Pigs", "Heaven and Hell" or "Born Again" as none of that is included here; Iommi concentrates very much on a chronological "we did this, then we did that" style of narrative. Nevertheless this is an entertaining read and something to whet the appetite as the reunion grows pace throughout 2012.
