Some of you may remember Nasty Savage from the Eighties, back when this kind of Slayer-meets-old-school-Fates Warning music was just staring to happen. These guys released some pounding albums, including 1984's Wage of Mayhem demo tape, 1988's Abstract Reality and 1990's Penetration Point before disappearing for 14 years.
Now Nasty Savage returns with the same lineup that made Penetration Point. Psycho Psycho revels in the sort of mayhem the band created back in the day, resulting in a retro slab of doomy Florida-bred thrash metal. Singer Nasty Ronnie's gruff and growling vocals are relieved by Chris Jericho, professional wrestler and singer for the all-covers metal band Fozzy, on three tracks (the title song, "Anguish" and "Savage Desire"). Surprisingly, they are some of Psycho Psycho's catchiest and best songs.
If socially conscious lyrics (or socially stunted, depending on your view) conjoined with violent music that first took root two decades ago sounds appealing, dig in – because Psycho Psycho was made just for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
