God Forbid: Gone Forever

Currently being hailed as the next great American metal band, God Forbid certainly lives up to many expectations with their third full-length release Gone Forever. Nine tracks, filled with brutal guitar riffs, complex arrangements, a killer rhythm section, and most importantly, dashes of actual melodies, help lift this new recording to new heights for this New Jersey quintet.

Listen to the mixing of aggressive throaty growls with melodic clean vocals on the emotional "Precious Lie" , complete with a ripping guitar solo and some atmospheric doomy passages, for a taste of what God Forbid is all about. "Antihero" comes close to progressive metal at times, thanks to the intricate guitar lines of Dallas Coyle and Doc Coyle, who steer towards vintage Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Judas Priest with their weaving lead and harmony lines. Fans of sledgehammer thrash metal will love tunes like "Washed Out World" and the brutal "Living Nightmare", a song that should go over well live, especially in the mosh pit with its relentless guitar riffs. Perhaps the most intriguing tune though is the closing "Judge the Blood", a melodic yet ultra-heavy shred fest of complex, slashing guitar rhythms, intricate lead work, and the effective use of two vocal styles.

God Forbid seem poised to take the metal world by storm with Gone Forever, a release that is as fresh as it is also a homage to some of the great metal legends of the past 30 years. Well done guys, the world will be listening!
