Salt the Wound: Kill the Clown

Ohio's Salt the Wound have returned with another platter of crushing deathcore in the form of Kill the Clown. Funny thing is, the band basically imploded a little over a year ago, only to reform this year with only Kevin Schaefer (vocals) and Jake Scott (guitar) on board, with Brandon Tabor filling in on drums for the studio album. Not sure how this is going to work going forward and if the band plan on fleshing out the line-up for possible live dates, but as far as Kill the Clown is concerned, it's a pretty robust sounding affair as far as modern day deathcore goes.

Most of the songs are fairly short, with a plethora of massive breakdowns, jackhammer drumming, monstrous riffage, and Schaefer's mix of screams, growls, grunts, and shouts. If you like brutal extreme metal, look no further than "Elle Ess Dee" (get it?), "To the Top", "Cash on Delivery", and "The Cliff Before the Fall" as great examples of music to bash your head against a brick wall to. This is stuff made for the mosh pit, and it's all played competently with plenty of conviction. As far as deathcore in 2011 goes, Kill the Clown is a more than decent slice and easy to recommend for those who can't get enough of it.
