Sunn O))): ØØ Void (Reissue)

Sunn O))) don't make music. They make dense, concrete atmospheres that are dark and dramatic with the gravitational pull of a ton of lead. Laden with distortion, their tones are monolithic and the canvas upon which they paint is vast, far beyond the scope of the horizon. Sunn O))) is an experience and so forget approaching their work with any pre-conceived notions of what "music" is or should be. Slow and sluggish, ØØ Void is abstract, a piece that must be listened to at an excruciating volume in order not to listen to it but to feel it. Where "music" has a structure that immediately gratifies the programmed need for something to latch onto, either a melody or a lyric, this is the equivalent to sliding down a mountain with nothing in sight to grasp on to. Like waves that grow into tsunamis, like protracted tectonic shifts that propagate earthquakes, like distant stars that explode unseen and unheard and create universes, ØØ Void provides a vast expanse through which the listener must endlessly fall. If you don't already own it, this reissue is more than worth picking up.
