Cain, Michael: Solo

"Michael Cain from Los Angeles, California, and now living in Las Vegas, Nevada, first started playing the piano at the age of four and was quickly improvising and composing. While a student at Cal Arts, Michael began playing with Los Angeles- based musicians, including Billy Higgins, Marlena Shaw, big band leader and composer Gerald Wilson, and the New American Orchestra. He also began touring and recording with flutist James Newton and recorded If Love, a CD also featuring drummer Billy Hart and bassist Anthony Cox" (, 2011).

This album is full of extraordinary piano variations and improvisations. The background side effects and sounds also add to the soundscape giving this album its unique characteristics beyond your normal jazz album.

The highlights for me were the opening track "Kammotion", with its cool background sound effects which accentuate the rhythm of the piano. "Prayer" is a dreamy slow piano piece that truly calms and helps the listener concentrate on their thoughts. "The Question" is full of big, bold piano playing which fills the entire room with sound as if the artist is there performing for you. Unfortunately it is only a little over a minute long.

This is wonderful piano listening music for any mood of any part of the day.
