Issa: The Storm

Norway's Issa made a bit of a stir in melodic rock circles with her very fine debut album Sign of Angels and now she's back with The Storm which sees her continuing the good work and building her career into something which could be fairly substantial. As her record company correctly suggests her music isn't, "metal and certainly not easy listening Pop, Issa's music has everything and more to appeal to the vast masses: real rock with a commercial sheen. If radio stations still played rock music and not watered down urban r'n'b for middle-class white kids Issa would be in with a real chance. I could certainly imagine Looking for Love, Please Hold On or others playing on Radio 2 here in the UK.

The Storm is arguably a little darker and more down tuned than Sign of Angels but one thing it does have in common is the quality of the songs which sees Issa trying her had at writing songs with the Martin Brothers as well as usual Frontiers suspects such as Robert Sall (Work of Art), Randy Goodrum (Steve Lukather, Toto, Steve Perry), Daniel Palmqvist, Johannes Stole (Xorigin), Daniel Flores, Sören Kronqvist (Crash the System, Sunstorm), Chris Laney and Magnus Karlsson (Place Vendome.) Special recognition should also go to Daniel Flores both produces and plays drums for providing a crystal clear organic sound that can be missing sometimes from Frontiers releases.

The Storm may well be too commercial and middle of the road for some of our readers but if classy rock floats your boat there is much to enjoy here.
