Burdon, Eric and War: The Lost Broadcasts (DVD)

This mini – DVD is taken from excerpts of a series of "Lost Performances", shown on German television during the 1960s and 70s. The series is one I will be searching out with great anticipation after reviewing this and the Curved Air version.

I have been a fan of the Animals and some of Eric Burdon's solo work since around that same era of the 60s and 70s. Each of these four songs is a classic, and with the addition of his sometimes band mates War, the rare footage shows Eric and the band at a very special time and one of the high points of his career. The recordings were made during a September 1970 run through Germany and Europe.

Burdon and War perform an awesome cover of the Rolling Stones classic, Paint it Black, which takes a little over two minute track, and turns it into an over thirteen minute epic, giving it the treatment this song truly deserves. His performance of Spill the Wine and one of my favorite songs from the British Invasion of the 60s, Tobacco Road are absolutely worth the price of the DVD alone.

The DVD captures the way this band and Eric got along and display the feeling many of us remember from that creative time period in rock history. So many of us were lucky to be a part of that generation who saw this music performed in person. But for those who missed it, this is a great chance to catch up.

This DVD gives you a chance to relive those memories of a time when many of us had few cares or worries, while adding rare footage to your memory banks.
