R.U.S.T. : Forged in the Fire of Metal

There are times when a reviewer need do little more than post up album and song titles for the reader to get a good indication of the music contained within, and such is the case with this Cypriot band's debut album. With titles so clichéd and cheesy even Manowar might think twice about using them, it's no surprise that the songs are of the not-so-subtle traditional metal variety. The likes of Accept and Saxon are obviously influences, although the thing that stands out is the frequent dual guitar work which could almost be lifted off early Iron Maiden albums. When even the promo describes the sound as 'rough' you know not to expect sonic perfection, but it's acceptable, and the enthusiasm and ability of the band to play their instruments comes across; what lets the album down is the rambling construction of the songs, whilst the choruses (almost unforgivably for this genre) simply aren't memorable. There's definitely promise here, but a lot of work will be needed in the future if this band are to make any sort of impact outside of their immediate local scene.
