Soul Seller: Back to Life

Italian melodic rock band par excellence Soul Seller has released a storming album, an album that calls to mind those heady days of the 80's. Back To Life rocks like the proverbial, storming melodies and harmonies that rattle around your head long after the event. This band may have been around since 1999 but this album is definitely the release they were destined to record.

This anthemic approach works so well, roaring toned guitar runs that wash over you which are complimented by some excellent backline interactions and Michael Carrata's sweet and stunning vocal presence that just offers hook after hook, calling to mind a young Jon Bon Jovi.

The music has a fascinating quality to it, although there is nothing new or unique on offer here, compared to some of the highly polished AOR out there, but for all intent and purpose what is offered here is what keeps dragging you back to repress the play button.

From the opening and rather spectacular Wings of Freedom it's game on, the AOR tinged Change Your Heart Tonight and the moroseness of All I Can Promise reinforces the intent of the bands creative force. Keep on Moving features a duet with Oliver Hartmann and the harder edged and titled track Back To Life and Rock Stands Still just ooze quality. The pinnacle of the album though is Old Hero's Prayer and Hell of Tears making them the standout tracks, with the whole album being brought to a fitting closure by a no less than powerful and stunning song Beautiful Heretic's Dream.

This is an album and band that set out to make a statement, a statement that offers longevity to this melodic musical approach. All I can say is long live bands like Soul Seller.
