Supreme Pain: Divine Incarnation

Divine Incarnation is the third album from Dutch speed Death Metal act Supreme Pain - a band who contain ex-members of bands such as Thanatos, Houwitser and Sinister. Not having heard the band's previous efforts I was quite taken aback by the sheer power and ferocity of the constant attack this band launch, with a barrage of drum blasts setting the tone for the twin guitar onslaught. Aad Kloosterwaard provides punishing and brutal vocals which smack home with punishing conviction, while the manic, dark production brings the bass work of Alesa Sare to a fuzzy, chaotic peak.

All ten of the tracks on show spew out the same formula from start to finish and while there's no doubt that Supreme Pain are more than adept at what they do, their lack of willingness to bring even a second's worth of compromise to their music lessens the songs impact as you work your way through the album. Erwin Harreman and Bas Brussard continue to rain down sickening guitar blasts and it has to be said that they make for an extremely consistent partnership, with the likes of "Spiritual Sickness", "Treasonous Disease" and "Towards Hell" making a lasting mark through the intensity of the guitar work and Paul Beltman's machine gun drumming.

Personally a little variation would turn Divine Incarnation from being the solid album it is, into something altogether more impressive, however if it is an extremely brutal and speedy fix of Death Metal you seek, prepare for some Supreme Pain.
