Dream Theater: Live at Budokan (Blu-ray)

Hard to believe that it's been 7 years since Dream Theater released their very heavy & controversial Train of Thought album back in 2004. Truth is the years are going very quickly, and Eage Rock wants to make sure all those who missed out on this fantastic live video release from that same year, highlighting the band's stop at the famous Budokan in Tokyo, Japan now can check it out, even more impressive in glorious high-definition Blu-ray.

The band mixed in plenty of tunes from the back catalog along with some of the crushing tracks from Train of Thought, like "As I Am", "This Dying Soul", "Endless Sacrifice", and the epic "In the Name of God". Plenty of deep album cuts on display here, such as "War Inside My Head", "The Test That Stumped Them All", "Solitary Shell", "Trial of Tears", and "Stream of Consciousness", among many others. The band is as tight as ever here, and the Japanese audience is eating it all up at every juncture. Other than the mandatory "Pull Me Under", there's very little here in terms of a 'greatest hits' live package, just plenty of strong album cuts from throughout their history up to that point, which is just what Dream Theater and their fans want out of a live concert. The audio & video quality here is just stunning, matching the quality of the performance in every way. So if you are on the fence about replacing your existing DVD for some high-definition Dream Theater on Blu-ray, I'd recommend it.

Some neat bonus material here, including a fun documentary of the band during their trip to Japan that year, as well as behind the scenes time with Portnoy, Rudess, and Petrucci, plus some other cool tidbits.
