Yoko Miwa Trio: Live at Scullers Jazz Club
Acclaimed Japanese pianist Yoko Miwa along with her trio, which includes, Greg Loughman on acoustic bass, and Scott Goulding on drums, perform on this live CD, captured at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston, Massachusetts.
Miwa's excellent, light – hearted piano sets a great tone straight from the beginning with "This Could be the Start of Something", and the fun never stops throughout the CD. The crowd can be heard enjoying themselves, especially with up-tempo numbers like the album opener. Although "Wheel of Life" is more reflective and opens slower, Miwa's perfectly executed piano keys just drift over the soundscape accompanied by Loughman's bass and soft cymbals from Goulding. The pace picks back up with "Mr. B.G.", and then drifts off to a windy calm with "Season of Wither". "Max Nix" is another of my favorite with its bluesy feel and strong character. "A Festa" closes the CD full of power and grace.
An excellent show captured live, while this trio is at the top of their game.
