Tripwave: A Retrospective Collection of Russian Psychedelic Progressive Music
This is a collection of psychedelic/progressive music from Russian, organized chronologically, over a 20 year period to highlight the best of the country's offerings in these genres. Many of the tracks were previously unreleased or difficult to find versions of celebrated tracks of the past.
The album is a great instrumental adventure with some vocals in Russian. It is full of wildly different sounds that provide a contrast between what has been traditionally delivered from a Western European or North American perspective in either of the progressive or psychedelic genres.
A good change of pace from what you may have been listening to from England and Western Europe. The instrumentation adds a fresh perspective to these genres bringing different arrangements and melodies seldom heard.
The beautiful female vocals mixed with smooth guitar and keys on Decadance's "Dream #5"; the excellent marriage of keys and moody guitars on Disen Gage's "Solaris"; KRTL' s rolling guitar and key jam on "Soda"; and the haunting female vocals on Vespero's "Inna Burst Into Tears", were some of the highlights for me.
If you close your eyes and go with the music you will find yourself tapping your toes and enjoying the experience despite the language barriers.
