Sleepwalker Sun: Stranger in the Mirror

Sleepwalker Sun, from Brazil, began with the ending of the band Revealing Web, headed by Luiz Gustavo Alvim. Alvim, who plays keys, vocals, and additional guitars brought together Giana Araújo, on vocals; Francisco Falcon, on bass and acoustic guitar; Rodrigo Martinho, on drums; and Ricardo Marins, on guitars to build this new band. Included on this album is a "special appearance from Brazilian prog monster Marcus Viana, which can be heard in Jalen's Eyes and Blindfold".

Araújo's beautiful vocals accompanied by acoustic guitar open this story and modern prog epic quietly, before the action gets started on the over 20 minute "Stranger in the Mirror" epic. Then guitars, bass, drums, and excellent early prog era keys kick this album into gear with a full on instrumental extravaganza! Araújo returns to bring the message back before another dive into instrumental bliss. Midway through the track, there is an excellent vocal, keyboard and guitar interlude which stands out as one of the early highlights on the album.

The album's sound is darker and more desolate than traditional symphonic prog, but its epic instrumentals give great support to the storyline. The instrumental interludes and Araújo's beautiful vocals will have you anticipating each new track and instrumental excursion. "Into The Twilight" was another of the album's highlights for me.

If you are craving something different with a hint to some of the great progressive music of the past this just might be your ticket.
