Hit It is the debut from The Slam, a new hard rock band fronted by Canadian singer/guitarist Serge Simic. These guys go for that mid/late 70's sound influenced by Aerosmith, KISS, The Rolling Stones, and AC/DC, but also 90's grunge like Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots. Produced by Fabrizio Grossi (Steve Vai, Alice Cooper), Hit It has a slick, powerful sheen that should appeal to most hard rock fans who like the energy & attitude of those classic albums of yesteryear, but with today's production standards. As such, Hit It is by no means the most original sounding CD you'll hear this year, but damn if these guys haven't put together some toe-tappin', tasty crunch n roll throughout this platter. Tunes like "Saddle the Moon", "Mr. Rock n Rolla", and "Bad Blood" sound like they could have been leftovers from Love Gun era KISS (Simic even sounds like a cross between Gene Simmons & Scott Weiland), and "Tears in the Rain" mixes vintage KISS with Sebastian Bach era Skid Row for a wild ride down heavy power ballad avenue. The legendary Glenn Hughes even lends his vocal prowess to the hard rockin' "Little Angel", one of the strongest songs here.
Overall Hit It is a lot of fun, and signals the arrival of another strong new band on the hard rock & metal scene.
