Exes For Eyes: The Amsler Grid

Have you ever heard a band that just doesn't do much for you? The guitar riffing or groove is OK and you kind of want to like it, but there is just something about the band that just doesn't do anything for you? Well, enter Exes For Eyes. They riff in the vein of Pantera, but without the guitar prowess, which of course makes the overall sound lack. But they do get a "C"for effort.

Their latest disc, The Amsler Grid, (Year of the Sun) contains 9 tracks of hard hitting, heavy riffage, although all quite the same in delivery. If you will, insert the typical Hardcore, blah, blah, blah, angryguy vocals over top of wannabe Dimebag-lite guitar riffs with what almost sounds like cheap drum machine drum tracks and there ya have it. Check out the middle section of the song, "Chains" with the fairly blatant rip off of Dimebag's outro of the Pantera song "Flood's". Thievery or tip of the hat? I'm not sure, but I know it sounds an AWFUL LOT like the Mighty P's "Floods".

Having said all of that, I'm sure New School Metalheads will prolly get into the all out assault of the constant pounding of Exes For Eyes. It's not that these guys are even bad, they aren't,but there is nothing here that you haven't been clubbed to death with before and to be honest it's kind of boring. Heavy? Yes! Boring? Yes! The Hardcore vocals get old quick and the Pantera like riffs are never quite cool enough to win you over. But all & all, Exes For Eyes, The Amsler Grid doesn't suck, it's just uneventful and kinda boring. Heavy, but boring.
