Infront: Inescapable

Infront have released their sophomore album Inescapable an album that is quite intriguing. Russia is producing some very fine musicians especially in the prog genre, musicians that aren't afraid to define what they are about. Thanks to MALS we are being presented an avenue to be able to put our hands on some of this great music.

The music presented here offers different soundstages that are both focused and challenging hitting on elements of jazz, fusion and Canterbury, music that has been created by Garry Uporoff (guitars), Dmitry Chernishev (guitars), Alexander Meshcheryakov (bass, keyboards), KS (drums) and Olga Mokhnacheva (cello).

The bands musicality is proficient and highly enjoyable, with some outstanding guitar interactions from Uporoff and Chernishev who tonally compliment each other, offering differing direction and rhythms. In saying this Meshcheryakov and KS both bring preciseness to the construction of the instrumentals too, additions that are not being lost in the mix, which keeps everything interesting and stops the music from becoming insipid. All the participating musicians just work in harmony making it all a highly enjoyable journey that just draws you in.

"Intro" with its balanced cello and piano work really sets the scene, whilst the elegant "Infinite Approach" offers a more suave tonal soundstage which is really defined by the guitar tone which is at times not afraid to challenge adding an off kilter sound and meter. The instrumentals are not overplayed but are given enough time to breathe creating their own identity. For me the whole notational approach of "Postcard Notice" is the band in perfect balance with some stunning cello contribution that more than matched the rest of the instrumentation.

Interestingly enough it's not all about slow paced interactions, the band are quite happy to rock out, moodily and readily changing the tone with the flip of a switch, which can be heard best on the three multi part instrumentals, "Lest They Forget", "RUNNN3" and "Jokes Aside" the stand out track which really manipulates varying approaches. These three instrumentals really confirm what this band are best at and also displays their heavier side featuring some rather nice guitar dexterity, instrumentals that really make the admission fee worthwhile.
