What do you get when you combine the talents of two of the most acclaimed pianists of the last century? Well, the highly spirited Orvieto of course. Chick Corea and Stefano Bollani should be well familiar to fans of solo & duo piano, and they have teamed up here (in Corea's first appearance on ECM in quite some time) for this highly enjoyable performance, recorded at the Teatro Mancinelli last December during the Umbria Jazz Winter Festival in Italy.
Throughout Orvieto, the duo weave a non-stop assortment of gorgeous melodies and stunning display of musical chops, which you can hear in full force on pieces such as "Doralice", "Portait: In Black and White", the rousing "Jitterbug Waltz", and the majestic "Darn That Dream". Corea's technique and delivery is as masterful as always, but the skills of the younger Stefano impresses equally, as he more than keeps up with the master at every juncture.
Dig deep, and enjoy this thoroughly engaging live set from two of the world's premier pianists in all their glory.
