Pink Floyd meets the Alan Parsons Project on this reissue of Canadian composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Rick Miller's 2008 CD, Angel of My Soul. A man out of time, Miller has been performing and recording since the early Eighties, but this album confirms that his real musical influences come from the Seventies. Angel of My Soul also takes plenty of inspiration from the Moody Blues and Steve Hackett. The overall vibe is heavier than expected if you've heard 2009's Falling Through Rainbows (which featured a fuzzy unicorn on its cover that looked a tad too much like My Little Pony). Miller's wicked guitar playing rears up on opener "Lord of the Abyss," and his typically smooth vocals get distorted on "Eternal Moonlight" and even a little violent on the title track. For the most part, though, this is highly listenable music designed for most fans of progressive rock.
