Frozen Dawn: The Old Prophecy of Winterland

After having worked in various extreme metal acts, the four members of this Spanish horde unleash its brand new debut full length,The Old Prophecy of Winterland.

This album contains ten original compositions and a Satyricon cover called: "Fuel for Hatred". The influence from Norwegian and Swedish scene is more than obvious here. Bands like: Darkthrone, Watain, Necrophobic and Dissection are all part of their style. The good point about Frozen Dawn is that most of their music is being played at mid-fast paces, with some faster moments too. Also, you have four very talented musicians that can compose interesting black metal, with a sense of melody. Frozen Dawn is able to thrown in some nice twists and turns, as well as showing complexity in their song writing. The lead guitar playing, mostly directed by melodious tremolo picking, is being backed by powerful guitar riffs that possess a nice crushing edge. In turn, the rhythmic work can come up with tasty black and roll riffing that are bound to make your foot stomp in more than one occasions.

Although not re-inventing the genre as such, this band has crafted some real cool songs such as: "Cold Souls", "Dark Lady", and "Winds from the North". My personal favorite tune is track three, "The Order of the Winter Moon", where great and juicy black and roll riffs could be heard.
