Hughes, Glenn with McIver, Joel: Deep Purple & Beyond - Scenes From The Life Of A Rock Star (Book)

There are those that claim to have lived the Rock N Roll lifestyle to excess and those that have taken it to another level....and then there is Glenn Hughes. Finally the Voice of Rock, assisted by the much respected Joel McIver (author of more than 20 Rock books including Justice For All and Crazy Train) has found time to release this warts and all biography of his rise, fall and re-birth. As we have come to expect from Hughes he is remarkably candid throughout and shares his pain of drug addiction, relationship breakdowns and losing those close to him including some heartfelt words both for Tommy Bolin and Gary Moore (from whom he was estranged for many years).

It is clear that during his "dark period" Hughes career very much took a back seat to his lifestyle and it is therefore all the more remarkable that he was able to appear on albums such as Hughes-Thrall and Seventh Star. What is also apparent is that there will people around who never gave up on him such as David Coverdale whose invitation to appear on Slip of the Tongue provided a much needed boost.

Essentially the story concludes with Hughes beating his addiction and becoming a fully functioning singer - songwriter - musican again and recent events are only briefly touched upon, giving expectation that there may be a second volume at some point in the future that will delve into the Black County Communion era. The pictures throughout are of the highest quality although some images of a clearly ill Hughes in his brief tenure as a member of Black Sabbath are particularly hard hitting.

Initially the book is available in two limited editions of 400 and 100 via specialist publishers Foruli in formats that will hold much appeal both to fans and collectors alike. This is without a doubt one of the most compelling Rock Star biographies you are ever likely to read.
