Recorded four years ago, Brazil's Desalmado finally get to see their EP released by Florida's Greyhaze Records. With six tracks in just under fifteen minutes, Desalmado's largely grindcore sound is laced with more than an unhealthy dose of both thrash and death metal and is as serrated, jagged, and harsh as grind can get. Furious, hate-filled, and abrasive from the outset, Desalmado's lyrics are an open war on societal and political injustice, drawing from the same cesspool of inspiration as Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror, Brujeria, and more of that ill ilk.
Following the angry opening chords comes the hyperblast sonic attack of 'Condenados Pelo Odio' fortified by a combination of Napalm Death-style rancorous and shrieked vocals. The one minute twelve second 'Em Sua Honra' is akin to the kind of clubbing Tyson would dispense in his heyday, had he been able to coat his gloves in broken glass. With only the twenty second thrashy intro to recover from the drubbing of the previous song, the insurrection that is 'Miseria Escravatura' is unleashed, the gratingly slow middle section as heavy as Christ the Redeemer in lead boots. 'Chagas Abertas' is relentless, the riffs razor sharp, the middle section turning to thrash for its grooves and dynamic before administering a final grindcore beating. 'Manto de Sangue' is just pure pummelling grindcore, as is the title track, with some Sepultura-esque drum rhythms contained in the furious fusion.
This EP is to be made available as a 10" vinyl EP as well as a digital download a precursor for the band's nearly-completed debut full-length, which is being produced by Jean Dolabella of Sepultura. For details, check the band's website (link below) for more info on its upcoming release. In the meantime, the sheer ferocity of Hereditas is more than satisfying and should put Desalmado on the international grindcore map.
