Bitch: Be My Slave / Damnation Alley

Bitch, the first band to be signed to Metal Blade and the first female-fronted American heavy metal band to be signed to a record label ever, so this release could be looked upon as a piece of metal history. Originally released in 1983, Be My Slave's got everything that metal of that era had – big riffs, catchy choruses, and plenty of attitude – and, though not the best, it still puts up a good fight against most of the albums from that era. Betsy's voice may not be the strongest, nor is it the most melodic, but she's got attitude and that's what carries the songs. Damnation Alley has bunch of strong tunes with catchy choruses and some solid metal riffs. The bonus track 'Let's Go' has a hint of glam about it but is nothing particularly special, an average rock song in comparison with the other material, but considering it's been remastered from a cassette tape, the quality is pretty good. And with a bonus DVD of 10 live tracks from their performance at Germany's 'Keep It True Festival' in 2011 and 2 music videos, this package is not just a value-for-money bundle for those who fancy a sneak peek at metal in the 80s but a collection of material that deserves to be heard.
