Gordon Fights: Gordon Fights

Gordon Fights is a Swedish blues rock band with a sound similar to Led Zeppelin, Wolfmother, and a little Black Crowes thrown in for good measure. The band is made up of Viktor Balkewitsch Persson on vocals and guitar; Tobias Alpadie on guitar; Patrik Engström on bass; Anders Carlsson on keyboards and percussion; and Rasmus Söderling on drums and percussion.

This is solid rock from Sweden. I hear everything from Wolfmother to Tom Petty at times, which is a very good thing. They still maintain their originality and rock hard enough to be considered amongst the bands who are trying to keep the rock n roll I grew up with in the 1970s alive. I'd buy their next album when it comes out. If you miss the kind of music bands used to make in the 70s, you really should add Gordon Fights to your wish list.

'As I Please' opens with cool slow burn bass firing away to spacey keys, before you get a Wolfmother - like take off! Excellent start, notched to give you the feeling you're about to head back in time to Deep Purple or into the future with Wolfmother. The organ roars forward, before slow vocals, bass, and guitar are added for flavor. "I want to be free, to do as I please!" Brings the 70s right back as if they never left. Just like Wolfmother did for me. Then the cool bluesy guitar play and organ help drift you back in time to a place when we had more time and we're willing to appreciate every essence of a song. Great work.

'Birds & Flowers' opens with that cool AC/DC riff I remember from the 80s, before the plowing guitars, bass, and drums bring along some cowbell as well, to rock your head and ears. Another great rock and roll song. "Gimme more cowbell!"

'I'm Gonna Wait' is a slow bluesy mix of sound full of great bass, on time drums and slow paced guitar. A vocals driven song to give you a break after the first two fiery openers. But it's the Deep Purple – like organ work that stands out for me on this track.

'Dance Quite Well' opens with an interesting guitar riff and some solid drums before some 'Verve' sounding vocals and then the blues takes back over. A good straight ahead rocker.

'Brothers & Sisters' is the best track on the album for me. It blends some of my favorite sounds from the Black Crowes, mixed well with some Led Zep III era sounds. Great blues guitar and female support on vocals.

'Time Machine' takes me right back to that Wolfmother sound. The echoing guitar effects are cool. Cool ending.

'No Rope Around Me' is a slow grinding bluesy song full of swagger and quite possibly the second best track on the album for me. More Wolfmother screams that actually sound more like Tom Petty screaming this time. 'Gallows Pole' theme set to a Tom Petty sound.

'Little Darling' is the second best track on the album. The opening chorus is wonderful, then Persson, "Hey little darling why don't you come on over?" Nice blues beat and the feel of a Tom Petty song. Great rhythm and a fantastic beat.

'Warrior' opens with some cool guitar and organ slowly. Building drama and intensity. Then that Hendrix' 'backward' echoing guitar effect as more and more instruments are added. The cool bluesy sound to the guitar is awesome. The keys are just amazing. Persson really takes on that Tom Petty sound in his vocals while the band supports with a great mix between Deep Purple and the Black Crowes again. Excellent deep bluesy feel to this one.

The band has a lot of fun with the lyrics on 'Parasite', which is another good rocker full of those Wolfmother – like romps with the drums, and bolting guitars. This is the longest track and they use the mid – section to blow your mind with a Rush – like guitar buzz that helps lift the track high. The drum work on this song may be the best on the album. The full complement of guitar work towards the end of the track is also amazing.

My Score:

I am a student and I had to write my final coursework at the University. I found this service and gave a try. Both me and my professor were happy with the quality of writing. I’ve got a positive reference from him. This was my first order at writing a capstone service and I am 100% happy! The writer listened carefully all my instructions and wrote a perfectly informative and clear coursework.
