VaGiants, The: Short and Hard

If ever a band deserved to reach the heights of AC/DC like fame in the world of fresh and loose rock and roll, it's the VaGiants. A refreshing voice in a world made for leather-clad PBR-swilling, Marlboro-smoking, Social Distortion t-shirt-wearing, Bon Scott-loving rockers, The VaGiants have delivered something special with this little nine-track love bomb. Led by the lovely J-Rod Godriguez, this Canadian quartet dig their heals in early on with "Hotbox" (a must-hear-it-live track if ever there was one) and don't let up until they're sure that everyone's been converted to the the High Church of the V.G. With MAMA's drums keeping things steady beneath the wild, goose-honking guitars of Ol' Dirty Craiger and the rumbling rumble of Jonny B. Snaxxx's bass behind her Godriguez takes us through "F.U.B." (a truly refreshing take on the singles scene) and "Bury Me Standing," a song that might very well be the sound of hell breaking loose. Drop your Tickle Me Emo doll and get with the program: This is the most vibrant and raucous thing to come from north of the border since Neil Young's guitar.
