Khanate: Things Viral

Things Viral may be one of the most terrifying and haunting metal releases ever to creep its way across this writer's desk or it may just be one of the most haunting and terrifying metal releases ever. It also solidifies vocalist Alan Dubin's reputation as the dark poet of the American metal underground, a man whose voice could turn even the most vile, cold-blooded creature among us to stone with just one utterance. Once you've heard him belt out "Red glory," a phrase that figures large in the opening plod "Commuted," you won't soon forget it. Joined by collective genius of Stephen O' Malley on guitar, James Plotkin on bass and Tim Wyskida on drums, Dubin moves us from cold to colder, slow to slower to slowest, making us look at our darkest places along the way. Things Viral could chill even the most skin-blistering summer day and, if taken at the right time, will stop your beating heart.
