"The Rock the Cradle" series features lullaby renditions of popular songs from legendary rock groups. It will appeal
to the parent/rocker demographic, who are now ticket-buyers for bands and artists that had their heyday from 1978
and beyond. Capitalizing on the success of similar lullbye series, Rock the Cradle will appeal to hipster parents and
die-hard fans. To enhance what is already on the market, Rock the Cradle will strive to incorporate members from
the featured band on each album and will feature full bands and professional production."
Um, ok...In this latest release in the Rock the Cradle series, Def Leppard guitarists Phil Collen & Vivian Campbell deliver instrumental versions of many of their classic tunes, in lullaby style. Not sure exactly what the market for something like this is out there, as much of what you'll hear on Dreamin' With Def Leppard is extremely laid back and in some cases you really have to listen quite closely to even figure out what the song is. It's all competently played however, as the twin guitars of Phil & Viv, whether it be acoustic, electric, slide, or pedal steel, weave some of the memorable melodies found on classics such as "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Hysteria", "Love Bites", and "Bringin' On the Heartbreak". The slide work is especially good, giving everything a Derek & the Dominos meets The Marshall Tucker Band feel. That characteristic though presents part of the problem-most folks who would be interested in this are no doubt die hard Def Leppard fans, who will be used to the upbeat & bombastic original versions of these songs. While the guitar work is quite nice here, this is really sedate and laid back music whose purpose as background fodder or tunes to drift off to sleep to seems pretty apparent, but I think overall that is the point in this 'lullaby' series.
Worth a listen perhaps for fans of Def Leppard and the two guitarists, but hardly essential.
1. Pour Some Sugar On Me
4. Love Bites
6. Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad
7. Bringin' On The Heartbreak
8. Too Late For Love
9. Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)
12. Rock Of Ages
