Icarus(EP) is my first encounter with the music of Periphery. Icarus(EP) is a very short CD especially if you do not count all the various remixes of the title track itself. In my search for more information about the band and their music I found that this continuous remixing and changing of tracks and songs is something of a trademark for the band.
I must say I got really bored by all those remixes, and above that not only the remixing bored me but I have not heard a single track on this EP that has even remotely reached me. It is not the musicality of the band, I believe they do a fair job in creating their music, and they will probably reach a wide audience. It is plain and simple just not for me
Each of the tracks is well thought over and then mixed and mastered. As compositions the songs are all well done. The music does not let itself be put into boxes. As we may have a mix of a song leaning toward dub step, disco, hip hop and the like, whilst in another mix of the same song we may end up in a hardcore style. All these different styles for a song can work out fine, if you happen to like that. I don't.
If Periphery is a band for you, by all means check this out, but I am not impressed.
