Jardin De La Croix: Ocean Cosmonauts

Spanish instrumentalists Jardin De La Croix are clearly at ease with complex rhythms, sophisticated structures, multi-layered instrumentation, and protracted yet arresting compositions. Yet to focus on the individual members' performance would be a disservice to the power that is greater than the sum of its parts. Eclectic, progressive, and absolutely absorbing, Jardin De La Croix's adroitness in the universal language of the instrumental is hypnotic. Each opulent landscape is littered with effortless shifts in time signatures, styles, and rhythms that furnish the compositions with such finesse as to be nothing less than stunning. They transcend genre confines in their tastily written pieces, each instrument playing a vital role, the interaction between the musicians being intuitive and self-assured. A distinct improvement on their debut Pomeroy – itself a distinctly ambitious album that introduced Jardin De La Croix as an exciting secret – here they have moved on into further extremes, utilising melody, muscle and subtlety, and become increasingly meticulous and moving in their highly developed harmonies. Sentimental subtexts, torrents of sparkling water, earthy sounds, and roaring crescendos and cadences crash from the speakers in wave after wave of wondrously woven textures, each song is a catharsis, a blissful release. A richly diverse album that unveils greater depths and deeper dimensions upon each listen. Utterly enthralling and completely engaging, you can download both this album and the aforementioned Pomeroy for free over at their website and see for yourself. Then, when you discover that it's more than worthy of your esteemed collection, you can support them by buying it too.
