Hitchers, The: Tees Valley Deadbeats

It is inevitable that they get compared to The Stray Cats but that would be very superficial at best. Their influences definitely go there but the music lends itself as much to The Clash and Green Day along with a host of bands that started this music called rock and roll.

There are moments of pure rockabilly that will make you think Stray Cats clone, "Shake Ruby UB", the lead off track "Bop Til U Drop!" and "Baby Bought A Shotgun" for example but they also allow other influences to shine through. "I Might Never" and "Rotten Baby" could have been Glen Tilbrook penned tunes while "Rum" takes you back to the the origins of rock and roll with a Bill Haley feel to it.

They then take you on a more punk type outing with "Weekend" and "Anti-Protest Song". To further diversify they then give you a real bit of doo-wop with the terrific "Me And London". As you can tell it is very hard to pigeonhole these guys into any certain category. They just play what they want, how they want and the results are a very unique disc that is a real surprise find. It is something very out of the ordinary and being so different it has been a welcome addition for sure. It may not be something you listen to constantly but it has crept into the player on more than a few occasions.

It might be different than what you are used to hearing but don't knock it till you try it. You might just be surprised to find out how much fun a disc like this can be.
