Horde of Hel: Likdagg

Nameless and faceless, Horde of Hel are, allegedly, a "supergroup" consisting of "scene legends" from other black metal bands whose combined message is the downfall of all man-made deceits, whether religion, borders, or laws of any description. Oh, and mankind itself. Annihilation, malice, misanthropy, and aggression permeate this band's philosophy and music. Relentless, stripped of the electronic effects of the past and is raw in its primal beauty, venom and hatred bleed through every pore of Likdagg. Murky, mysterious and sinister, the dark splendour of Likdagg, however, somehow doesn't match the rhetoric of their misanthropic message. Grimly atrocious in its ambition, Likdagg lacks the menace that their farcical propaganda promises. Okay, it's ferocious and eerie in all the right spots and songs such as 'Works of the Holy', 'Smartans Vapen', and the title track – which is beautifully haunting in its ghost-like aesthetic – dwell in truly bleak landscapes, but the musicianship, combined knowledge, and inflated pledge of these dark overlords promises more. Much more. Disappointing.
