Do you remember the Blasters from the 1980's? I was a fan back then. Well they're back in the form of the Mike Eldred Trio. Well almost. John Bazz, the bass player from the Blasters is one of the leaders of the Trio. Mike Eldred plays guitar and sings. He has a deep resume including his famous work with Brian Setzer's bands. Jerry Angel plays drums and percussion. Jerry has also played with Setzer's bands, and a long list of legendary blues and rockabilly artists. They've brought some other all-stars with them to complete this incredible blues/rock album. Scotty Moore plays guest guitars, Ike Turner adds piano, Cesar Rosas and Kid Ramos bring some rocking guitar, Riley Osborn brings some fantastic Hammond organ, Jeff Turnes, brings tenor sax, the Job's Quartet of Bob Olson, Jarvis Jernigan, Paul Shivers and Michael Buccowich add backing vocals. The album is further enhanced with the addition of the Emmanuel Church Gospel Choir.
This album is full of wonderful blues and rock hits that will entertain and bring back memories of days gone by. Mike provides a short biography for each track, so I won't do a track by track review. Each is a unique story set to share or commemorate moments in life. The guitar work is some of the best blues guitar I have heard this year. The drums and bass are also fantastic. The guest artists add so much to the overall production. Plenty of reminders of the legends of the blues mixed perfectly with good rocking songs that keep you interested and entertained throughout the album. "61 and 49" was a huge highlight for me. A great album to spin and enjoy especially with friends on the back porch with some crawfish on the barbecue.
