Conflicted: Never Be Tamed

Canada's Conflicted have recorded their debut album Never Be Tamed after having already released two highly regarded E.P's. Conflicted are a band that move more on the heavier side of power / progressive metal, (Kamelot or Symphony X being really good points of reference), if this is how you like your music then Conflicted are a band that you need to be checking out.

The whole presentation and musical orientation features some rather interesting interaction, which is high energy from start to end, confirming that the band have the ability to write songs that do stand out and Never Be Tamed is an album full of these examples.

Mark Owen's guitar work which has a neo-classical foundation, which at times sounds like Yngwie Malmsteen and at others Michael Romeo, being more than a match for Ron De Coste stunning keyboard work. When this is all grouped together with Jason Orton's multi octave vocals, which more than calls to mind Rob Halford and Tim "Ripper" Owens, Corey Stoll's exacting drum work and John Kolodziej's adept and succinct bass patterns, then you have the recipe for a band that have hit on a winning formula.

When you hear tracks such as the stunning "Never be Tamed", the dark and mid paced "Victor(ia)", the heavy riffs and catchy choruses of "The Hand Of God" then you'll know you have been entertained. If I was to choose one song from the whole album that summed up the band and all their elements, it would have to be the album closer "Release", with its slow tempo start, its emotional vocal approach and driving musical crescendo's.
