Time to dust off your Kobaian/ English dictionary ; we're embarking on a journey with the 'combattants de la zeuhl Wortz K.' with Christian Vander and his supergroup Magma . This DVD captures the Theusz Hamtaahk trilogy live at the Trianon in Paris, commemorating the bands 30th anniversary. The trilogy is comprised of three very long movements:
1- Theusz Hamtaakh
2- Wurdah Itah
3- Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh
( I apologize for not putting the umlauts and/or other accents on the titles, but the Kobaian on my keyboard isn't functionning )
Do I need to go into an explantion of a music which ,basically, defies description ? Christian Vander is still at the drums after 30 years, and still able to pulverise the skins. His current revolving door of musicians includes notables such as Emmanuel Borghi ( keyboards) and James MacGraw (guitars) whom some of you may know from their fusion/zeuhl hybrid band One Shot . Although their playing is rock solid, the real strength of Magma is the vocals. At times up to 9 vocalists ( 4 male and 5 female) share the stage in a jaw dropping display of vocal prowess which lifts and propels the listener into the magical struggle of good vs evil that is Magma . Each movement runs in the 40-45 min range, thus creating a 2hrs + concert. The closing Mekanik Destructiw Kommandoh is an absolutely spellbinding track, considered by some 'prog experts' as possibly the finest progressive rock ever to come out of France.
The bonus footage consists of interviews with former Magma members which pay tribute to Christian Vander and his amazing musical vision. All done "en francais" it can be skipped over by those of you who don't speak " la langue de Moliere".
Run, don't walk to your nearest vendor and demand your copy immediately. Even if you've never heard this band before, this DVD will make you a believer. Essential viewing for all prog fans . Go ! NOW!!
