Better in Black: The New Black II

Now I like what I'm hearing here. Germany's Better in Black if promoted right, could be a force to be reckon with; had this been an American band it would have multi platinum written all over it. This is an album that has the flavours of Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd and Black Label Society written all over it, being slightly dirtier in approach.

From the opening song "Better in Black" the band really grabs you by the throat, pushing their kick ass metal in your face. This is an album that is full of highly choreographed rock, massive walls of sonic guitars. Vocally this is a hybrid of Chad Kroeger, Zakk Wylde with a hint of James Hetfield and to some degree Phil Anselmo, in other words a heavy metal wet dream. He may not the greatest singer in the world, but more than meets the requirements of the band.

This is an album that requires to be played at maximum volume, with your air guitar flailing around pulling all those classic poses. We are talking succinct songs, no long self indulgent guitar passages, just massive Powerchords having fun, with a capital F.U.N written all over it. The album has a hard rock edge, but the band has managed to keep it commercial, not in a cheesy way either, any track here could be a hit single without alienating anyone.

The Leimsen and Fabs twin guitar fest is stunning which more than compliments the backline of Günt and Chris, well to honest they aren't so much backline as the excellent production quality has everything well up in the mix making it a level playing field, whilst Fludid's vocals really brings the whole affair to life.

Whether the bands powers through your ears with the guitar driven "Better in Black", "The King I Was", "Batteries in Rust" or the brilliant riff fest "Last Chance to Throw Dirt" or they use a smoother approach of the Kid Rock sounding "Happy Zombies" or "When It All Ends" the whole vibe the band have created screams class.

Better in Black have set out to kick your ass..... and boy is it some kick.
