Those good people at Stormspell Records seem to be attempting to give the metal-loving public a chance to get their hands of some worthy, if obscure Euro metal. Recently they re-released some old and new material from Slander from the UK and now they have unleashed Metal of the World by Spain's Vhaldemar which is a whole lot of fun and deserves to be heard by more than the lucky thousand people who will surely hoover up what is a very pleasing record.
For once the record company does not lie when they describe the album as, "Fist-pumping, blood-rising traditional Euro power metal in the best traditions of Gamma Ray, Grave Digger, Stormwarrior, X-Wild, etc." If any of those names float your boat then this will work for you although I'd throw in U.D.O./Accept into the mix as well as vocalist Carlos Escudero has a certain raspy quality to his voice.
What would Euro metal be without cheesy metal-related lyrics? Let's take a look at the chorus of the title track shall we?
"Heavy Metal! Metal of the World
Heavy Metal! Metal of the World
Heavy Metal! Metal of the World
Heavy Metal! Metal of the World"
If you require some escapist, stick the brain in neutral fun then Vhaldemar could be right up your street.
