Not to be confused with the legendary Italian progressive rock band or a handful of other metal outfits from various places around the world, this Delirium is a melodic death metal band hailing from Mexico. Kicking around since the late 90's the quartet by all accounts issued this second indie effort entitled All These Years of Dying… back in 2009 so the copy that made its way into my hands is most likely a re-release.
Over the course of these eleven songs the band demonstrates that they're quite adept at fusing fast and furious technical passages with strong and memorable sounding melodies. The results should definitely be something that all serious death metal fans can get behind as belter Carlos Torres' sinister sounding snarls mesh perfectly with the overabundance of heavy and complex riffs and the tasteful solos of lead guitarist Adrian Espindola. Even though I could do without the female vocals that crop up on a couple of tracks I have to say that overall Delirum does a pretty fine job of keeping things interesting. When they ease up on the gas from time to time and rely a bit more on sculpting atmospheres, as they do over the course of the closing instrumental track "I'll Be There For You", it not only makes for a nice change of pace, but it also reveals another side of the band as well. The album which is kind of a concept disc revolving around, you guessed it…death, contains some splendid, old and mysterious looking black and white photos which are scattered throughout the CD booklet.
All These Years of Dying… is hardly groundbreaking stuff, but as I mentioned there should still be plenty for the average death metal fan to get excited about here.
