Defaced, The: Anomaly

The Defaced have been around since 1999 although this is the first time their work has come to my attention so I can't judge the validity of their claim that, "New barriers are crossed stepping away from the convention of the scene in general, making the album a force of nature." Force of nature may be over stretching it a bit but Anomaly certainly packs an aural punch and even made me re-evaluate my initial opinion of, "shouty noise."

Some of the chorus harmonies are quite sublime and coming off harsh thrash verses makes them more memorable. It is entirely possible that some may be disappointed in the album because there are some quite tender, quiet moments; it's almost as if they were like Journey and couldn't work out which route to go down!

Eventually it all gets a bit samey but it's not terrible and there are worse ways to pass one's time.
